Discover the surroundings of Delfstrahuizen
The area around Friese Meren villas seems made for vacationers. If you draw a circle of about 25 kilometers around Delfstrahuizen, you will find everything every lover can dream of.
Put on your walking shoes and walk towards the vastness; enjoy rural vistas with green meadows, Friesian horses and monumental farms. The gently sloping Gaasterland has ancient forests that exude a unique atmosphere.
In the other direction, eastward, is National Park Weerribben-Wieden. Swamp forest, water, birds and endless reed beds: nature in the Weerribben looks pristine. But appearances are deceptive, because every meter of land here is man-made. The extraction of peat changed the landscape into a swampy area with valuable wetlands. It is also the breeding ground of the otter. Canoeing is the most beautiful thing here.
Between walls of reeds you paddle further and further into the greenery, until you only hear your own paddles and the song of reed warblers and warblers.
Nature, peace and quiet is not the only thing the area has to offer. In picturesque towns like Langweer, Goingarijp and Ossenzijl you will find sunny terraces with conviviality. Urban entertainment, with cozy harbors good restaurants and of course nice stores can be found in nearby Lemmer and Sneek.
In the imaginary circle is everything you need to enjoy a wonderful vacation. And don't think Friesland is so far away, from Amsterdam to Lemmer it is not much more than an hour's drive.
Lake Tjeukemeer awakens
Lake Tjeukemeer is an experience for everyone. You can sail there, of course, but you can also surf, swim, fish or even cycle all the way around. In Friesland's largest lake (22 km 2) there are three small islands in the middle of which the most beautiful island listens to the enchanting name Marchjepolle.
No matter how exotic the sun shows itself on the waters of the lake, nowhere is the landscape more Dutch. The villages around Lake Tjeukemeer are friendly and charming. Delfstrahuizen, Oosterzee, Rohel, they could be nowhere else. The farms perched at the head of pastures where the cattle are and look at the clouds. How can something so simple be so beautiful. In the nineteenth century there were plans to dam the lake, but fortunately that never happened. Like so much still preserved here. Now the Tjeukemeer is the place for water sports and nature lovers.
And for the animals. The east side of Lake Tjeukemeer is a true bird paradise. Crested ducks and widgeons winter on the lake, as do many other species. The beautiful nature reserves of Oosterschar and Braandemeer make every bird lover's heart beat faster.
There are several stories circulating in Friesland about how the Tjeukemeer got its name. One goes like this: Two sisters, Tsjûke and March perished long ago in a terrible fire. The people who stand helplessly watching hear the sisters' voices above the violence of the fire. "Chûke!" cries March. "March!" cries Chûke. The shouting goes on, for hours. Even when the flames are long since extinguished, the spectators hear the voices of the sisters. Their first names are immortalized in the Frisian name of the lake.
Delfstrahuizen and Echtenerbrug
The park is located on the outskirts of the picturesque twin village of Delfstrahuizen/Echtenerbrug. The village offers all amenities such as eatery Dikke Tút, hotel / restaurant Noudus,Supermarket Spar (open 7 days a week) a snack bar, boat rental, do-it-yourself store and a cozy department store. From the vacation park you can walk to the sandy beach at the Tjeukemeer for sunbathing, swimming or surfing.
Lemmer and Langweer around the corner
More stores and catering establishments can be found, among others, in the harbor town of Lemmer, ten kilometers away from Friese Meren villas. The village of Langweer, water town Sneek, Leeuwarden and the beautiful fortified towns of Sloten, Balk and Woudsend are also well worth a visit.
